In 1974 the Japanese government was obliged to introduce quality standards towards the importation of chlorella because of a disparity between grades and purity values.
In Japan, chlorella is the highest selling health food, exceeding even vitamin C. Because their national production cannot respond to the demand, Japan has to rely on imports.
Japan is the only country to have such strict standards over heavy metals and bacterial contents in imported chlorella.
Our chlorella* is widely sold into Japan and Germany where criteria for commercial use are the highest regarding the algae.

Most manufactured chlorella is continuously harvested in natural lakes by producers in order to ensure the largest production from the growing ponds. This profit-oriented procedure presents the dangers of breeding bacteria and toxic organisms. Also, some producers use flocculating chemicals in order to separate the chlorella cells from the water. These chemicals residually end up in the finish product, defeating the detoxifying properties of chlorella.
On the other hand, all culturing procedures of our chlorella aim to guarantee the cleanest and most potent chlorella.
Bio+ Chlorella® comes from the purest and from the most nutritious chlorella species, pyrenoidosa, and its culturing seeds are carefully selected by laboratory. Chlorella pyrenoidosa has superior toxin absorption and detoxifying qualities and also contains the largest quantity of Chlorella Growth Factor (C.G.F).

The stringently controlled environment under which Bio+ Chlorella® has been grown consists of underground water rather than surface water.
The culturing ponds are exposed to the maximum natural sunshine for optimum growth; they are continuously monitored by lab and by personnel patrol to ensure that no pollutants enter into the ponds. The underground water is filtered many times over to respond to the same concern of unwanted elements. The water is tested following each filtering. Neither chemicals nor pesticides of any kind are used during the culturing process: due to the purity of the harvest process Bio+ Chlorella® is completely natural. After the harvest, the ponds are cleaned by high pressure water and hand scrubbed without any use of chemicals. The ponds are then sealed until the following culturing.
If anything should inadvertently enter into a pond, the lower grade chlorella deriving from it will be sold as animal feeds, unlike certain companies that may sell this type of grade for human consumption.
Only the cleanest and the highest quality Bio+ Chlorella®, responding to purity, color, bacteria-free and metal-free testing is sold for human consumption.

In order to access and benefit from its host of nutritious and health building components, the indigestible cell wall of Chlorella needs to be broken to provide adequate digestion and to release its inner treasures.
Other companies use a variety of methods, some of which could damage the nutrients. Some use a blanching method with heat to achieve the cell wall destruction, destroying as well the some of the cell's nutritional ingredients.
Yet the nutritional value of the cell wall is what makes Chlorella so unique and precious!
Some use a milling process to rupture the cell wall. It makes the product more digestible but by milling or grinding the algae, exposure to oxygen may dissipate important nutrients, Chlorella being an extremely light sensitive plant.

A more recent and efficient technology, sound vibration, is used with Bio+ Chlorella® to gently crack the outer cell wall, giving its high digestibility ratio of 80-85%, while preserving its entire genetic potency and stability.
During the drying process, high-speed blowers bounce Chlorella's cells against each other and against non-aluminum drying tankers.
Simultaneously, high frequency sound vibrates chlorella's cell until its walls gently crack, without tampering with the wholesome balance of vitamins and amino acids.
Bio+ Chlorella® has then become highly digestible and aqua soluble before consumption.
 How can you check the quality of your chlorella supplement?
- The first important question regarding a good quality chlorella is not so much its digestibility, as it is very misleadingly often raised by some chlorella companies.
More important is whether the chlorella you are taking is heavy metals free. One of chlorella's main properties is to detoxify heavy metals from your body not to add pollutants into it!
Chlorella being extremely porous, you want to make sure that its cell wall has not been exposed to any contamination during the harvesting and the commercialization. The mercury level in our certificate of analysis has come back non-detected at a level below 0.001ppm which is on a average 100 times better than most chlorella on the market(usually analyzed at below 0.01ppm)!
A Canadian food laboratory has tested our chlorella. People are often misled by an evasive "non-detected" report which should be attached to a specific number!
Some chlorella products, termed non-detected, contain up to 0.48ppm lead or up to 62ppm aluminum!
- The second important question is whether chlorella is 100% pure or added with binding agents or excipients, such as calcium and magnesium, to manufacture the tablets.
Chlorella naturally contains calcium in its original potency, but some companies add man made calcium and magnesium as excipients to bind the tablets more efficiently. The more natural, the better is chlorella. Ours is 100% organic & natural!
If you prefer chlorella in a capsule form, check whether the capsule is originating from animal or from vegetal sources.
Chlorella is marketed as tablets, capsules, powder, and granules or as the water soluble extract called Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF).
For daily consumption, our recommendation would be the powder form as the best choice; the second choice would be pressurized tablets (100%pure) with no added excipients. The third choice would be vegetable capsules.
- The third question lays in where and how the chlorella you are choosing has been grown? Was it grown under natural maximum sunshine or deprived of it? Chlorella from indoor or tanks culturing does not offer the same potency and genetic stability. Only ideal environment conditions of optimum sunlight exposure and fertility generate maximum photosynthesis, allowing chlorella cells to quadruple within 24H, testimonial of its genetic purity and of its miraculous repairing abilities.

4. The forth question resides in the kind of method used to break chlorella cell walls for digestibility. Nowadays almost all chlorella on the market is treated to be digestible, thanks to the available technology. The question is what kind of process has been used, since some methods can really destroy chlorella's original potency and nutrients. Chlorella is a plant extremely sensitive to light. Milling, bleaching, pasteurization, usage of chemicals or enzymes may destroy important nutrients in the process. Sound cracking remains probably the most efficient to treat chlorella's cell walls while keeping the wholesomeness of the nutrients.
5. The fifth question would be in the method of marketing and distribution used. Does it rely on heavy commercials or on doctor's recommendations? How expensive is the product? How much extra are you paying to support expensive marketing campaigns? Chlorella is, without the shadow of a doubt, a super whole food, but if it is as expensive as a drug, how could you afford it as a daily use?
